In 1992, IDFG created the Idaho Wetlands Information System database to house information on wetlands of conservation significance. Wetlands were identified by IDFG staff, partners, and public input. These wetland sites were prioritized based on criteria including wetland type classification, size, ownership, potential partners for conservation, conservation status, recreation values, unique features (e.g., rare plants, animals, ecosystems), potential threats, and access. The database was updated in 1998 and includes information on 192 wetland sites.
